Schools to Remain Closed to In-person Learning

Update for Families – June 2, 2021

Today, the Province announced that schools will remain in remote, online learning for the rest of this year due to the ongoing concerns around the pandemic. I know that our staff were looking forward to seeing the smiling faces of their students in-person, but we now know that this will not occur until September. We continue to be very grateful for the flexibility and support you have shown throughout the course of the pandemic.

Please expect further communication from your child’s school with regards to end-of-year details such as student belonging pickup, graduation ceremonies, returning of textbooks and devices, report card pickup, etc.

As planning for the 2021-22 school year takes place, we continue to communicate to families so that you are well-informed. Last week, we shared information about Virtual School registration and important deadlines. For those students who require virtual learning, as a Board, we made the decision to offer the remote experience through a full-time Virtual School rather than using a Hybrid model. We believe that the full-time Virtual School provides a stronger, more-consistent teaching and learning experience.

We have been informed that the Ministry of Education will be making additional changes and outlining health and safety protocols for the next school year sometime this summer. We commit to continue to share information with families as soon as we are able. We will be busy over the summer months making upgrades to our schools to ensure the best and safest experience possible for our students when they return in September. Please monitor your email inbox over the summer months in preparation for the 2021-22 school year. If you change your family email address that is on file at the school, you must inform the school, or you will not receive these communications.

We are very grateful and appreciative of your support throughout this pandemic journey and trust that we are nearing the end of uncertain times. Our hope and faith will guide us through the next few months, and we anticipate that our Catholic learning community will be together in person soon.

Please remember the importance of physical distancing, correct mask wearing and be aware that the province has opened vaccination clinics for students 12+. Together, we will help keep everyone safe.

God bless,
Rick Petrella, Chair of the Board
